What Are Vitamins, Anyway?
Vitamins are a group of chemically unrelated, organic (carbon-containing) nutrients that are essential in small quantities for normal metabolism, growth, and physical well being. These nutrients must be obtained through diet, since they are either not synthesized in the body, or, not in adequate amounts.
Vitamins are involved in many important chemicals activities within our cells, which cease to function properly, in the presence of vitamin difficiency. So, it stands to reason that since cells are the building blocks of our tissues, which comprise our organs, which organize to become the body systems upon which we live, that proper vitamin intake is pretty important to our survival.
We know that uncountable volumes of books and high-priced marketing hype have done more to confuse the average vitamin consumer than to educate. We are here to explain in practical terms, what vitamins and the deficienies thereof, mean to you.
